Market Valuation
MotorWeb and Trade Me offer a vehicle valuation service which is available via API, a stand alone report in the MotorWeb portal and is also incorporated in our VIR and AssetCheck reports.
What is a Market Valuation?
A market valuation is complex solution that will value a vehicle based on market dynamics and pricing as at today. This differs from other valuation providers which will value a fleet of vehicles on a monthly basis.
A market valuation caters for fluctuations in market pricing quickly than other types of valuations. Just think about how quickly the prices of cars changed during the COVID pandemic and the NZ floods and cyclones of 2023.
What Types of Vehicles Can MotorWeb Value?
At this point we can provide a market valuation for passenger vehicles and light commercial (vans, light trucks).
What Information Does a Valuation Provide
The following information is provided in a market valuation so that you can make informed decisions.

Retail Price
This is the price you'd likely see advertised on Trade Me or at a dealership.
Wholesale Price
This is the price a dealer would likely offer (likely less some other refurbishment costs) for a trade in.
Low and High Retail & Wholesale
These are the realistic upper and lower bounds of the price estimate. So whilst we have evaluated that the Retail price of the above vehicle is $43,89, it could be less or more based on the condition of the vehicle.
Confidence Score
Any valuation, regardless of what it's for or who it is done by, is an informed estimate. The confidence score is essentially a representation of the volume, recency and quality of the information we have in order to build a valuation.
In essence a high confidence score will be based on lots of pricing information that is within the last 30 days and is from quality sources (Facebook is not high quality).
In other words, we will have higher confidence in providing a market valuation for a 2021 Tesla Model 3 (35 for sale at the time of writing) than a 1973 Ford Mustang (2 for sale at the time of writing).
Another factor is that, unlike other valuation providers, we utilise the current odometer to generate our valuation. This is a critical component to the valuation as there can be quite a difference in the price for low vs high mileage vehicles.
