Listing History
FAQs about MotorWeb Listing History
Listing History will show :
When a vehicle was listed and delisted (How motivated to sell is the current owner?)
Which marketplace a vehicle was listed on (How active is the current owner?)
The asking price and any price changes (What the current owner believes their vehicle is worth?)
Listing history will be available in the VIR if the vehicle has been listed on any NZ marketplace since November 2020. This is currently almost 50% of vehicles and increasing by the day.

How will you know if listing history is included in the Vehicle Information Report?
Check the information section on your VIR, if we've found some listing information we'll let you know.

Example: Listing History can show how long a private seller has been trying to sell and what their price expectations are

What can we see in this example?
A private seller has repeatedly listed the vehicle since 11 Aug 2024. They’ve owned the vehicle for about 1 year (24 Nov 2023)
After listing with AutoTrader for a month in Aug ‘24, they’ve gone on a listing blitz in Sep and Oct, dropping the price, re-listing on AutoTrader and also listing on Facebook and Trade Me.
What can we safely assume about the private seller?
The current owner has been trying to sell for ~2 months unsuccessfully on multiple marketplaces. After 2 months they dropped their expectations (asking price) from $26,000 to $22,911.
We can assume this is due to a lack of interest at $26,000 and that the owner now just wants to get rid of the vehicle.
How reliable is the Listing history information?
MotorWeb matches the listing history against the vehicle VIN (not plate) so we’re pretty confident. As long as the VIN is correct the listing history should be correct..
Is the Listing history available on all MotorWeb VIRs?
No, it will be available almost always if the vehicle has been listed on an NZ marketplace site since November 2020. Currently around half of vehicles come with a listing history but we are working on improving this number. There will be circumstances where a vehicle may have been sold and the listing history is not available.
How will I know if the Listing history is available?
If we have the data, we will let you know in the summary of the VIR report. You will only ever be charged for listing history if we are able to provide the data.
Does “Delisted” mean the vehicle was sold?
No, our analysis shows that in most cases, when a vehicle has been Delisted it has been sold. There will be situations where a vehicle has been Delisted without being sold.
Is the vehicle price when “Delisted” likely to be what the vehicle was sold for?
Not necessarily, it is simply the asking price at the time.
What if the vehicle is never “Delisted” but then “Listed” again a month later?
The vehicle was automatically Delisted from Trade Me following the month it was listed. It wasn’t manually delisted by the seller and just ran the listing course (potentially not sold).
Can I just request the Listing history?
We are looking at making this available as a stand alone feature as well, but until we increase the number of vehicles we have with listing history we’re keeping it as an additional feature in the VIR for now.
Can you provide details around past listings such as photos and seller details?
We are working on providing photos from past listings but are unable to provide seller details.
